#RMS OUTPUT FACTORY HEAD UNIT INSTALL#
My inlaws asked me to install a kenwood head unit in their car with stock speakers and the result was the same very little low end music. Got a alpine amp to power the rear speakers and they still didint have strong bass as the stock, they were only louder, amp was in high pass and low frequency maxed. My mate had a pioneer unit and speakers put in spent $250 for a combo and they sound great thougth it was a matching pair The front speakers are now sounding just as bad. Thougth it was the head unit, replaced it with a kenwood double din 50wx4 and the rear speakers still sounded bad, bass wise. They sounded awful in terms of low range pretty much had no low range at all, turn the bass all the way up and you can jsut make out the low end music.
#RMS OUTPUT FACTORY HEAD UNIT UPGRADE#
Thought id go better and upgrade the rear speakers with a set of kenwood 3way 300w speakers for $180. Most don't notice it, but that is why I say hearing is subjective.I had an 03 mazda protege and it system sounded awsome standard especially the bass. Mind you, i can't sit next to an incandescent lamp without noticing the faint ring when it is on. Probably because they are placed too close on the pillar, for me. I once told a guy here that I find the EX-L tweeters a bit bright. So what one may say is best does not mean you will feel the same depending on how well you hear. In fact not everyone hears the exact same as another. Some can hear far better by just how their ears are formed than others. I bet if you used your money in the best sound deadener and proper enclosures to seal the factory speakers, you would have a more noticable sound experience than with just buying speakers that may be even more costly without a noticable gain in sound quality.Įveryone is limited by their hearing and by the shape of their ear. Then for road noise conditions, sound deadener to allow you to hear the subtle nuances of higher fidelity. But with all that said, most speakers with such a high rating are money and require customised tuning, as they have roll offs that may require a matched mid or tweeter to fill the void. To make better sound I would require more efficient speakers => 100 spl. With setting properly adjusted, which can be done with Base, Mid, and Treble controls, frequency roll off with pure signals were too low for needing a speaker upgrade. I did a tests with 20Hz to 22KHz using a RS db meter. Upgrading the EX-L speakers for better sound? Donno if your expected costs will be much better than stock for speaker ranges. Since the stock speakers are 6.5" and probably ~40W output, any 6.5" woofer in the 12-18W RMS will be the most comparable to stock but provide a slightly to moderately higher quality sound without overpowering the headunit or amp.Īll my opinions of course, I don't assume to be an expert, just an audio hobbyist. The head unit signal is tuned frequency wise for the stock speakers though, so changing the speakers won't necessarily output better sound. The amp sends the power and the head unit sends the signal to the speakers. Imo, without disconnecting the stock amp and powering the new woofers with a new amp, getting significantly better audio from the speakers will be tough.

Those definitely aren't the RMS value (actual output) but the peak power numbers. Through research it seems no one really knows the true output of each speaker but the likely guesstimate is 4x40W for the four woofers, 2x15-20W for the tweeters and 1x70-80W for the sub in the back. As far as I know, the power from the 270W system doesn't come from the head unit, there's an external amp somewhere behind the glove box that provides the power. First time poster so excuse my beginner forum post mistakes por favor.
